Final Rehearsals For Carmina Burana |
| Only a few days remain: On July 3rd, "Classical Music on Weberplatz" will take place for the second time. This year, Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana" is the main feature of the evening. The Collegium musicum Potsdam Symphony Orchestra is eagerly awaiting the arrival of the 85 choir singers from Slovena.
The children's and youth choir of the Potsdam "Singakademie" and soloists Katharina Wingen, Mircea Nedelescu and Thomas Wittig will assist in letting Orff's "Carmina Burana" ring out over the Weberplatz. Those unable to attend on this date have the opportunity to attend a second perfomance on Sunday, July 4th 2010 at 4 PM in the Church of St. Mary in Belzig. Read more |

| The Collegium musicum Potsdam Symphony Orchestra was unanimous. The new orchestra board with Karsten Berghäuser as the new chairperson and Dr. Knut Andreas as the Artistic Director with his deputy Philipp Schüler were elected without dissent. The other board members are Karolin Schmälzlin, Erasmus Meinerts and Michael Großmann. The record of the past two concert seasons is impressive: Knut Andreas reported on the positive development and work of the orchestra, which in the regularly scheduled concerts has become more diverse and challenging. He recalled performances with unusual programming, such as the Silence concert, the Aladdin Suite and Billy the Kid, or the successfull performances of Shostakovich's 5th symphony. The world premiere of his Requiem for soprano saxophone and orchestra with Ralf Benschu was even noted internationally. The concert was covered in the two largest daily newspapers of Brazil's Amazonas region.
A further highlight was the acclaimed launch by the Collegium musicum of the "Classical Music on Weberplatz" series under the patronage of the state culture minuster at the time, Johanna Wanka. The orchestra enjoys increased recognition in Potsdam. Lord Mayor Jann Jakobs opened the anniversary concert in March of 2010, and for this year's "Classical Music on Weberplatz" with "Carmina Burana", the ambassador of Slovenia, Mitja Drobnic, is expected. This will be followed by a concert tour to Slovenia in October.

At its symphony concert on April 19, 2008, the Collegium musicum Potsdam symphony orchestra launched a fundraising drive under the motto "CMP needs a grand". Since a concert grand piano is becoming increasingly important for the orchestra’s rehearsals and concerts, donations will be collected for a time to help with the acquisition of this special (orchestra) instrument for the orchestra’s inventory. 250 Euros were collected on the first day already -– an excellent start. The donations currently amount to: 3226,17 €.
A heartfelt thank you to all donors! |
